Aid to the immune system

The exposure to external, elevated heat induces what is called whole body hyperthermia, or WBH. Essentially, WBH is an “artificial” fever, and it produces many of the effects of fever without the introduction of foreign bodies. It has now been shown through scientific study that a fever state not only triggers certain white blood cells into action, but actually enhances their effect. While too high of a fever is definitely detrimental to the tissue and organ systems, it is beginning to appear that a mildly elevated body temperature is actually a good thing.

Vast research has also been conducted regarding the use of WBH as an adjunctive cancer treatment. Research has shown that WBH increases the efficacy of chemotherapy. While the methodology behind this is still uncertain, it is hypothesized that the increase in efficacy is due to better delivery of the drugs via vasodilation and the lack of the tumor’s ability to self-regulate temperature.

Increase in circulation

As a response to heat from the sauna, there is an increase in cutaneous blood flow. This is beneficial in several ways. Increased blood flow allows for a better means of delivery for nutrients and oxygen, which in turn promotes healing. The heat also causes an elevation in blood pressure, which over a session of twenty to thirty minutes mimics the effects of a mild workout and stimulates endorphin release. In fact, the endorphin release during a sauna session can be as much as three times as normal, which are similar to the amount released during a middle-distance training run. This endorphin release not only can relieve stress, but pain as well.

An improvement in skin condition and appearance

As previously stated, the resulting heat exposure from the sauna causes an increase in cutaneous blood flow. This increased blood flow aids in the detoxification and nourishment of skin cells, which over time will aid in improving the overall health of your skin. As the health of your skin improves it will have more even tone with a radiant and natural glow. The steam also helps open and clean your pores, which can prevent acne and rid the skin of blackheads.

But what about ozone with steam?

The ozone-ready steam cabinet consists of the steam cabinet with a built-in port that you connect to an external ozone generator. While the steam cabinet is producing steam, ozone gas from the ozone generator is pumped into the cabinet, thereby creating a synergistic effect. The humidity and heat from the sauna induces a good deal of sweating, which of course opens up the pores. As discussed previously, induced sweating has been known to help the body detoxify for centuries, but the addition of ozone only aids this detoxification through its powerful antimicrobial action.

A second synergistic effect has to do with ozone and its solubility in water. Ozone is known to be many times more soluble in water than plain oxygen, so in an environment like a steam sauna it is easy to see how much more ozone could be absorbed when the body is likely covered in water. One could even postulate that if the average adult is comprised of 60% water, and ozone has such great solubility in water, an ozone sauna could be the ideal method of super-oxygenating your body.

While oxidative therapies have been used somewhat sparingly in the past, they seem to be growing in popularity as their mechanisms of action are better understood. If one were to canvas the general public regarding alternative oxidative therapies, the most common answer would likely be hyperbaric oxygen. Hyperbaric chambers use oxygen (O2) under pressure to help the body absorb more oxygen through the skin, however they typically cost five times the amount compared to an ozone steam sauna and require extensive training.

Ozone steam saunas are also gaining traction in the athletic world as they have been shown to aid in not only performance, but recovery as well. The increased circulation from the steam sauna increases blood flow, which aids in oxygenating muscle tissue. Oxygenation of tissue aids in production of ATP, which simply put is the energy that “powers” our cells. For purposes of performance, an increase of ATP will aid in stamina; for purposes of recovery, after strenuous activity the presence of ATP will help prevent muscle soreness by slowing anaerobic respiration, which as a byproduct creates lactic acid and the soreness that accompanies it. Athletic clubs, gyms, and even personal trainers would be wise to take note of the growing use of ozone steam saunas in the athletic world and consider the additional revenue stream an ozone sauna can provide.

Ozone Therapy In Depth

Ozone therapy is growing in popularity around the world, despite being one of the most misunderstood therapies available.  It is freely used and studied by medical societies in Austria, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and France, including the International Ozone Association, the Medical Society for Ozone Application, the Swiss Medical Society for Ozone and Oxygen Therapies, and the International Medical Ozone Society.  So what is ozone therapy, what does it do and why is it so controversial?

The Controversies and Misunderstandings

A lot of the questions that arise about ozone have to do with pollution and the ozone alerts we have become so familiar with.  When you hear words like “ozone alert” it’s easy to wonder about the safety of something called ozone therapy.  How can “pollution” be good for the body?

It can’t, but ozone is not pollution – it only serves as an indicator of pollution.  The burning of fossil fuels produces hydrocarbons that can gather and cause the pollution we are currently battling.  When the ultraviolet rays of the sun hit hydrocarbons, ozone is one of the byproducts.  Because ozone is much easier to detect, it is used as a reference point for hydrocarbon levels, but ozone itself is not the problem.

Some ozone critics point out that people have died after receiving treatments from unlicensed practitioners.  This is true of any therapy when used improperly (some of the deaths we found were as a result of non-ozone therapies performed by people who called themselves ozone practitioners).  When used properly, ozone is extremely safe, one of the safest therapies in the world. By contrast, according to the 2003 report, Death by Medicine, approximately 783,936 people in the US die from conventional medical mistakes every year and of those 106,000 are due to prescribed drugs (a number that may be under-reported).

Velio Bocci of the University of Sienna Department of Physiology in Italy, a leading ozone researcher, says, “it has been demonstrated that the judicious application of ozone in chronic infectious diseases, vasculopathies, orthopedics and even dentistry has yielded such striking results that it is deplorable that the medical establishment continues to ignore ozone therapy.”

How does ozone work in the body?

Ozone can be created for use in ozone therapy by using an oxygen tank or oxygen concentrator with a good ozone generator capable of creating ozone in concentrations between approximately 10 mg/ul and 60 mg/ul.  A concentration of over 70-80 is not recommended and lower levels are more suitable for internal use.  The ozonator essentially attaches an extra oxygen molecule to the traditional double oxygen molecule (O2) which becomes ozone (O3).  Almost immediately, that single molecule will break off and start attaching itself to the walls of viruses, bacteria, fungi, molds, parasites, pesticides, chemicals, poisons, rotting matter, odors, yeasts and weakened cells.

The singlet neutralizes the pathogens, turning them into dead debris that can then be eliminated from the body.  Cells that are susceptible to ozone are those that have weak or simplistic enzyme coatings – healthy cells cannot be penetrated.   Unhealthy cells are destroyed and carried away by the circulatory system where the elimination organs can get rid of them.  This process takes time, which is why it is better to use lower dosages of ozone over a longer period of time instead of high doses in a short amount of time.

It can take a while for relief from some conditions to manifest, so it is important to continue the treatments until the toxins have been completely eliminated.

What can ozone do?  What is it being used for?

Ozone was widely used to treat gangrene on the battlefields of World War One.  Today it is extremely popular for sterilizing water due to it’s incredible disinfection capabilities.  It is currently being used to help people with herniated disks with excellent outcomes in approximately 70% of patients, and in some dental procedures where sterilization around a tooth is needed.  Germany has been using ozone successfully since 1959.  Russia touts over 40 successful years of using ozone for tuberculosis.  Cuba has used ozone in hospitals since 1986.

Thousands of patients with chronic and acute joint diseases gained fast pain relief, reduction in inflammation and improved mobility using ozone without side effects.  It has also been shown to affect the body in these ways:

  • It can clean arteries and veins while stimulating the production of white blood cells
  • It can purify the blood and lymph systems
  • It may help prevent and reduce stroke damage
  • It can improve overall brain function
  • It can stimulate the immune system, making it possible to fight invaders more effectively
  • It can normalize hormone and enzyme production
  • It can inactivate bacteria, viruses and fungi
  • It enhances circulation and stimulates oxygen metabolism
  • It can increase dissolution of tumors (most of the patients studied with metastatic cancer resistant to chemo and radiation reported a striking improvement in quality of life with prolonged O3-AHT treatments)

In time, perhaps the FDA will accept and promote the benefits of a natural therapy with wide application possibilities instead of focusing solely on unnatural therapies with high adverse reaction rates.

How can ozone therapy be used?

Drinking Ozonated Water:  Using an oxygen source and an ozone generator, you bubble ozone into a water bubblerthat has an ozone destruct system to keep ozone from escaping freely into the room.  The bubbler has an extra airtight silicon stopper that makes it easy to store water.

Breathing Ozone:  You don’t want to breathe ozone directly because it can be harsh and make you cough.  By bubbling it through oil first, the ozone is much easier to breathe.  You need an oxygen source, ozone generator and an oil bubbler.

Insufflating Ozone:  Ozone can be insufflated several ways but two of the most popular methods involve an oxygen source, ozone generator, ozone humidifier and either an earscope or rectal catheter.

Using Ozone with Steam:  Steam has a wide variety of benefits all by itself, but it also opens your pores and allows for the easy absorption of ozone.  You need an oxygen source, ozone generator and a good steam.

Directing Ozone to One Part of the Body:  By using an oxygen source, ozone generator and an ozone cup you can direct ozone onto wounds, scars or other small problem areas

Ozonated Olive Oil:  Olive Oil has proven to be great for some skin conditions I’ve had.  The oil holds ozone very well and you can get it without having to buy oxygen or generators, so it is by one of the most popular ozone applications.

What is Near Infrared Spectrum?

Infrared is naturally emitted from the sun and our bodies, in the invisible spectrum of light. When we stand in sunlight, infrared warms us – if we stand in the shade we feel cooler even though the air temperature doesn’t change.

Infrared makes the water inside of us vibrate, allowing for deeper penetration. It breaks water molecules into smaller clusters, which helps create an easier release of toxins. It helps blood circulation, increases metabolism and makes your tissues create more necessary enzymes.

Because of the near infrared’s deep penetration, along with our magnetic therapy and sound therapy, our infrared can soothe muscles, speed healing from injuries and increase blood flow to sore areas.  Although “infrared saunas” have become prolific, too deep a spectrum or too long a session can actually ruin your blood.  The NEAR infrared spectrum does not become caustic to your blood.

There are the many benefits of our near infrared spectrum room along with our magnetic therapy and sound therapy, which help improve your skin, purge toxins, relieve pain, strengthen your cardiovascular system, reduce stress and speed healing because it targets the parasympathetic nervous system of the body. This is why it is very relaxing and helps people with insomnia. Once you’ve completed a treatment, consume water throughout the rest of the day to help speed up the toxin elimination.  You should feel more relaxed and ready to face the next day.

What Can our Near Infrared, Magnetic and Sound Therapy Room Do For Me?

These therapies have phenomenal success, and have been used by therapist for years, but when we combine all three modalities together in one room these are the benefits:

Skin Improvements: Sweat helps purge clogged pores of dead skin cells and embedded impurities, leaving behind more radiant skin. Increased circulation helps nutrients flow to the skin which can relieve burns, eczema, acne and psoriasis.Minor cuts and lesions can also heal faster.

Weight Control and Calorie Burning: A infrared sauna session can burn the same calories you would if you were jogging or rowing for a half hour. infrared penetrates fat cells and helps clear out cellulite.

Detoxification: Sweating is nature’s method for eliminating waste from your body. infrared saunas enhance this process using lower, comfortable temperatures.

Pain Relief: infrared heat dilates and expands peripheral blood vessels. This can bring relief to soft tissue and muscle injuries. Plus, improved circulation brings oxygen-rich blood to the injured areas of the body to improve the natural healing process.

Cardiovascular Benefits: When using a infrared sauna, the heart pumps at a higher rate, just like a cardiovascular routine. Cardiac output, heart rate and metabolic rate rises while the diastolic pressure drops, providing improved fitness.

Reduced Fatigue and Stress: infrared heat is warm and soothing and loosens and relaxes sore, tight muscles. It also helps relieve the aches, stiffness and soreness of aging.
